Belinda Jo Carlisle, born on August 17th, 1958, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, U. S., is a singer and author, who became famous as the lead singer of the Go-Go's, a very successful all-female group, before going on to have a prolific career as a solo artist. Brought up in Southern California, Carlisle began her musical career during 1977 as the drummer of the Los Angeles punk band the Germs then joined the Go-Go's as their lead singer after the group's formation in 1978. With their chart-topping debut release Beauty and the Beat during 1981, the group helped popularize new wave music in the US, being the first all-female band in history who wrote their own songs and played their own instruments to have a No. 1 album. The Go-Go's have sold over 7 million records worldwide. After the Go-Go's split up in 1985, Belinda went on to have a successful solo career with hits including "Mad About You", "I Get Weak", "Circle in the Sand", "Leave a Light On" and "Heaven Is a Place on Earth", which were big in the US, UK and internationally. Her autobiography, Lips Unsealed, published during June 2010, was a New York Times Best Seller, having received favorable reviews. As a member of the Go-Go's, Carlisle received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on August 11th, 2011.
