Without death would our morals change? He was young when a pastor said "there's something of the devil in him," and the words stuck with him for a long time. Years later after an accident, those words come back to him as he discovers he is unable to die. Whether by something otherworldly or a delusion brought on by the countless surgeries on his brain, he must now live with how his existence has changed. "A Simplified Equation" addresses human values as if they are a mathematical equation, where biology and experience are variables that change the answer, and tells a story that asks: if the variable of death was removed, how would one change as a person?
