Tense drama about the trials of a young man called Pip (Paul Anthony) who, on his eighteenth birthday, finds himself homeless and alone. As a gift, he is given a tape of his grandfather's (Ian McKellen) recollections from his own eighteenth birthday while fighting in World War Two. Pip identifies with the similarities between his own life and struggles and those his grandfather faced all those years ago.

A local priest (Alan Cumming) forms a bond with Pip and this allows him to talk about of some awful experiences he has had to endure.
