Blueleader, a satire, is a story of cultural contrasts as the fates of U. S. Air Force General and Mrs. Wilson are cast in the decisions they make. Assigned as commander of U. S. military presence in the Kingdom during the early 1980s, legendary aviator General 'Blueleader' Wilson wants to fly and to conquer; his lovely wife, Pearl, wants to shop and to find romance. Plans for the ambitious General's Operation Black Gold take him-and sometimes Pearl-to Riyadh, Dhahran, Khamis-Mushayt, Tabuk, and Taif for an in-depth look at U. S. military presence in the Kingdom as well as insights into Saudi culture. Self-centered Pearl delights in plundering the gold souks finding jewelry to enhance her beauty and her role as General's wife. The couple are immersed in events over which they only think they have control, while America's CIA and Saudi Arabia's Royal Family have other plans for the couple's aspirations.
