Beautiful Albertville, Alabama, originally settled in the mid-1800s, is home to a special community that has endured many trials and tribulations throughout its history. The town, once known as Jones Chapel, was named in honor of Thomas Albert by his son-in-law, J. C. Miller, who established the town's first post office. Albertville remained fairly secluded until the arrival of L. S. Emmett in 1881; this pioneer opened a mercantile store and thrust the town into a significant period of growth. Despite the fact that the town experienced its fair share of growing pains-including two fires in 1904 and a cyclone in 1908-its citizens have provided the impetus to keep moving forward.
Over 200 vintage photographs from the Albertville archives, family and church collections, and the author's private collection illustrate the successful story of the town of Albertville.
