Contributor Bio:  Romano, Carol Carol A. Romano, PhD, RN, C, CNAA, FAAN, is Deputy Chief, Department of Clinical Research Informatics, Clinical Center, at the National Institutes of Health. She has an undergraduate degree in Nursing, a graduate degree in Administration/Nursing, and a PhD with a focus on Operations Analysis/Informatics from the University of Maryland. Dr. Romano is also a Commissioned Officer with the senior rank of Captain in the Nurse Corps of the U. S. Public Health Service. Her accomplishments at NIH have been recognized with the NIH Director's Award, the PHS Meritorious Medal, Outstanding Service Medal, Commendation Medal, Achievement Medal, and several citations. She has authored over 50 professional published papers and holds a university faculty appointment at University of Maryland. She has also served as chair of the Commission on Certification of the American Nurse Credentialing Center, member of the USPDI Advisory Board on Therapeutic Information Management, and co-chair of the Maryland State Board of Nursing Task Force on Standards of Practice. Contributor Bio:  Chasek, Ruth Ruth Chasek has been Nursing Editor at Springer Publishing Company for over 15 years, where she has worked on many award-winning books. Fitzpatrick, PhD, MBA, RN, FAAN, is the Elizabeth Brooks Ford Professor of Nursing, Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where she was Dean from 1982 through 1997. She has received numerous honors and awards including the "American Journal of Nursing "Book of the Year Award 18 times.
