THE Rev. John Wesley required the first preachers of Methodism, when they offered themselves to him, to write an account of their early life, the time and circumstances of their conversion, and the manner in which they were led to preach the Gospel. Many of these accounts appeared in The Arminian Magazine, and were afterwards collected and published in six volumesunder the title of "The Early Methodist Preachers." The present volume is an abridged form of those six books.* To all who value the history of the Methodist Church, the perusal of the lives in full will be an inspiring study.
