Hank O'Neill, a ruggedly handsome miner bears the burden of a promise that not only threatens his life, but his marriage to his lovely wife, Louise. Numerous time she had pleaded with him to leave so they could start a new life together. Hank refused, because he was bound by an oath.

Louise is desperate to make her escape; but in the isolated Appalachian Mountains of post-depression America, a way out is difficult to come by. Gambling everything, Louise makes a desperate plight to procure a better life and to fulfill the destiny that haunts her dreams. Hank said, "To hell with the promise" and hops aboard a south-bound freight train. He begins a perilous journey to win back the amazing woman he loves.
