Destitute farmer Ulysses Endymion "Yew" Wynn reluctantly makes a Faustian deal with jaunty and superrich business tycoon Max Randall, who lives in-and exuberantly manipulates all things acquisitive from-a titanic American-flagged hot-air balloon, THE AMERICAN DREAM, whose penial cockpit doubles as a hypersonic aircraft. And then Max acts as Yew's mentor in a satirical and quirky odyssey that's ripe with fantastic pitfalls and Hobson's choices and eventually Yew consumes prototypic ears of Max's company's flag-colored "All-American Corn" and so Yew then turns into "an American flag on its own pole" and so Max then sets Yew up as a national hero-"the Flagman"-so that he can then run for president and siphon votes away from President Conway Brand's (aka "the Brander") main re-election opposition. But Yew is forthright and decent and so his popularity grows exponentially and so he then unexpectedly...
