Stems Bold Kids

Stems are basically just sections of the leaves and branches of a tree or plant. They are also called the "carp" because they are directly attached to the stem. Stems have spongy tissue known as the meristem that contains cells divided into two sections. This creates new living tissue known as the xylem that provides a sustainable source of food for the plant.
