Alexander Burnes
The soldier, political agent and covert operative Alexander Burnes (1805–41) was stationed in Kabul at a time when British interference was greatly resented. He was murdered by a mob in 1841, and this account of his journey to and time in the Afghan capital was published posthumously in 1842.
