Compiled and edited by James Anderson. Caption and section titles vary. Early monthly issues have colophons; later, volumes have single colophon preceding first index leaf. Colophon reads in part: "Printed by T. Bensley". With title page vignette. Direction line of each issue has volume number. With errata notes and list of plates at end of volume index. Issue numbering is consecutive from volume to volume. Each issue is divided into three sections, some unpaginated, others with continuous pagination and repeated designations. In first two numbers the 'Recreations in art and literature' are followed by: 'Recreations in natural history' and 'Recreations in agriculture'. The sections of each issue in v. 2 have been rearranged and the caption titles altered. Section titles are self-explanatory.
