In 1695, he was elected to the Chaplaincy at the English Levant Company s office in Aleppo, Syria. Plagued by ill health for much of his life, Maundrell died in 1701, shortly before publication of the first edition of A Journey From Aleppo to Jerusalem At Easter A. D. 1697.
