Contributor Bio:  Thwaites, Reuben Gold Journalist, librarian, and editor Reuben Gold Thwaites (1853--1913) was managing editor of the Wisconsin State Journal and secretary of the Wisconsin State Historical Society. A prolific editor and writer, he edited the Jesuit Relations and Allied Documents (73 volumes) and Original Journals of the Lewis and Clark Expedition (8 volumes) and wrote France in America, 1497--1763 and Wisconsin: The Americanization of a French Settlement.
