Four events occur in one week. The attempted assassination of the Vice President of the United States, the murder of a young African American girl, an explosion at the National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, and the execution type killing of an Israeli researcher, all land on the desk of small town Attorney David Middleton when he agrees to defend a newspaper reporter for murder. Handicapped by the loss of his leg during the Gulf War, David is pulled from his self-inflicted exile by a beautiful deputy sheriff, when she is kidnapped by an international terrorist who wants the plans for an experimental vehicle developed at the National Laboratory. Going to the rescue, David uses his abilities, with no thought of his disability, to save the woman he loves. Bit by bit David pieces together a story of espionage that threatens national security, and unearths treason that goes back to Desert Storm. With the aid of a U. S. Senator, a government secret agent, and a known assassin, they head off a terrorist plot that could destroy this nation.
