Max Adeler was the pseudonym of Charles Heber Clark (1841-1915), the author of Out of the Hurly-Burly (1874), Elbow-Room: A Novel Without a Plot (1876), Captain Bluitt (1901), Frictional Electricity (1905) and By the Bend in the River (1914). "When the good ship "Morning Star, " bound to Liverpool from New York, foundered at sea, the officers, the crew, and all of the passengers but two, escaped in the boats. Professor E. L.
