Marty, a single-parent widower, becomes smitten with new co-worker Elena, an intelligent, ambitious, and sexy analyst. Gwen, thirty-three, single, and anti-jock, falls for Vincent, muscular and heroic, at the fitness center. The two new relationships develop in similar and parallel manners. Marty and Gwen, who have never met are unaware that the objects of their respective infatuations, Elena and Vincent share a common bond; they are both very unhappily married - to each other. In alternating, parallel chapters, Marty and Gwen each recalls the challenges of seeing beyond the faades and the confusion of what becomes passionate infatuation.
