This fictional novel is about a group of young men who grew up in a big city amongst ethnical neighborhoods, poverty, alcoholism, and gangs. When the country is forced into World War II they leave their families and sweethearts and join the Army. They grew up with strong prejudices against each other and now will need each other's trust and help in order to survive the war. The challenges are many including the harsh winters of Europe and the never ending marches from one battle to another, not to mention the well organized and well-supplied enemy of the Third Reich. Get comfortable when you sit down to read this one because you won't want to get up until you have finished.
