Chippewa Ridge follows Jenifer Bellant and her family, neighbors, and friends from the idyllic summer of 1975 through the changes brought by marriages, chronic illness, alcoholism, uprootings, and the trauma of divorce. Just when the dust seems about to settle for Jenifer, she finds herself embroiled in the bitter treaty rights controversy which is dividing the people of northern Wisconsin. Throug hall of the hardships and material poverties of their lives, the families on Ridge Road manage to find joy in the wild, ever-changing loveliness of the Chippewa Ridge seasons and in their caring for one another. This story is an easy-paced affirmation of the human spirit, and a reminder that our heritage of simple living on the land offers as much today as it ever has.
