My purpose in writing Confederate Money stemmed from a desire to discuss subjects that are pivotal in the direction young people will take when they choose to travel the road on which they will live their lives. These subjects are discussed around the lives of the members of the Ortega family, but they could apply to any family in any neighborhood spread across this great land we call America. Amanda at a young age becomes interested in a boy named Robert and, when they finally become friends, they live their lives out under the control of societal influences that war against the dreams of boys and girls. Robert, who in no small part becomes determined by his parents that share a marriage commitment void of love, matures with a spiritual discernment light years ahead of his age. His spiritualism and his ability to love provide an insight into a relationship between a boy and girl that few people, across the entire span of time, ever come to know. Robert also stumbles across the Bim Boe Chronicles. The Bim Boe Chronicles detail the life of a slave girl (Minnie Bim Boe) in the Old South. Her plight to live and achieve her goal provide an insight into the Old South and the reasons why the Civil War was fought that have never been looked at before. The truth that is espoused in the Bim Boe Chronicles may be the last vestige of hope for those who are still shackled with hatred.
