Eiland, who served in the US Army, 3rd Infantry Division, 7th Infantry Regiment, from August 1941 through the December 1945, from initial training at Camp Roberts, to North Africa, Tunisia, Sicily, Italy, France, and Germany, and ending fi nally at Hitler's home in Berchtesgaden. It is a different take on what life was like for both the soldiers and local population, and the mix of fear, exhilaration, and occasional humorous moments that characterized the events of the war.
