The people in Trinidad saw it as an impossible mission, but I was determined to island-hop all the way to America or die trying. Haunted by a learning disability and driven by a dream that wouldn't die, at age sixteen after the untimely death of my mother I cast my faith to the wind. With no money, connections or travel experience I cast away with passion and blind faith aboard a small ship determined to island-hop through twenty-nine different islands and make it to the U. S. I had no idea of the dangers that awaited me. My consuming obsession to get to New York, get married and become a successful singer/songwriter, was stronger than all the odds against me. Nothing could have prepared me for the mission I was about to undertake.
