Contributor Bio: Gardner, Alexander Alexander Gardner was a Scottish born photographer best known for documenting the American Civil War, his photographs of President Abraham Lincoln, and images of the conspirators in Lincoln s assassination and their execution which were put to publication by Harper s Weekly. Much of his prodigious output during the American Civil War is misattributed to Matthew Brady, however negatives discovered in 1893, some years after Gardner s death, sparked a renewed interest in his work.
