Laura is reading a manuscript she wrote almost twenty years ago. At that time, she and her sister were on a driving trip to research their family history. Laura had been recently married to Alan and she was experiencing tension in her relationship with her husband because of a child from his previous marriage. Her sister, Deanne, a widow of two years, was still struggling to cope with her grief. The sisters rely heavily on each other for support and understanding in their changing lives.
