Publisher Marketing: FOREWORD PASSE-PARTOUT as a medium for picture framing has taken a prominent place among the accepted handicrafts in the classroom and the home. It is found in the school curriculum indeed, it has a very definite educational value since it teaches many things, among which are colour-sense, colour values, colour harmony and contrast, neatness and a sense of proportion. First efforts will create enthusiasm in both child and adult, since pleasing results are possible in the case of even the youngest child. A study of the early chapters dealing with simple bindings will enable teacher and child to commence work and produce some quite attractive results. This will give encouragement and a desire to go further with the craft and later to produce not only handsomely framed pictures of all kinds, but delightfully decorated articles, models, toys and similar things which will be useful in the classroom and home. In the planned course of work outlined in this book, there is something to appeal to all ages and tastes. One pleasing feature of this handicraft is that there are no hard and fast rules which compel observance individual taste may be freely exercised to suit surroundings or the style of existing colour schemes in rooms or wall decoration. When a little skill is acquired, the infinite variety of subjects in the course of worlc will give scope for a general development of the handicraft. Materials are not expensive for those who wish to frame pictures, paintings, drawings and similar subjects, there is just the binding and other material involved, and these are much less costly than wood or metal framing materials. For decoration, model and article making, there are the additional materials which the worker may choose to employ for the work, and much of this may be obtained by using empty boxes, card and similar materials. I have to acltnowledge to Samuel Jones 8. Co. Ltd., the Butterfly people and makers of many of the materials usecl in this handicraft, my thanks for their kind permission to reproduce both work and materials.........
