Contributor Bio:  Wittbecker, Alan Alan Wittbecker is Senior Design Ecologist with SynGeo ArchiGraph LLC in Florida, where he works on a series of projects in global ecological design. He also teaches Forest Science at the Ecoforestry Institute and Environmental Science at Ringling College. A veteran of the U. S. Air Force, Wittbecker is also a returned Peace Corps volunteer from Bulgaria, where he monitored wolves in the Central Balkan Mountains. He has used his education and interests to explore a spectrum of ecological applications, from research on forest 'pests'-larch casebearers, cedar powderworms, and bears-to the political implications of the protection of species and habitats.
