Publisher Marketing: A unique collection of women's stories from the island of Tasmania. It is a selection of thoughtful, considered and engaging writing which varies from whimsical flights of fancy to travel experiences, gripping short stories of fiction and non-fiction to seriously considered essays on current affairs. All pieces were produced between 2002-07 by Tatlers women writers in northern Tasmania, Australia. Volume II reflects the writing of the five years immediately after publication of the first book which covered the initial forty years of the group, when much of that work was hand written, sometimes typed but almost always, in first draft. Work in this volume has had the advantage of being produced by word-processing thus allowing authors to reflect, alter, polish and re-write sentences and paragraphs, hone skills and produce easily readable, high quality work. Over nearly fifty years, some eighty women writers have contributed as members of Tatlers since its inception in 1962. A selection of the first forty years' writing was produced in 2002 in 'An Inspired Pursuit' published by Karuda Press in the series of an Historical Survey of Northern Tasmania. Work in the first volume is considered to be a significant record of an aspect of the social history of the island of Tasmania as it was formulated during the time women began to leave the confines of the home, join the workforce, undertake studies and become socially and financially independent. Both 'An Inspired Pursuit' and Volume II contribute to furthering women's social and cultural studies. Tatlers now have their own website: www.tastatlers.com which give details of the authors and their first book.
