The last place Hazel Kapp wants is to find herself is back in the tiny, conservative hometown of Hope, Ohio. Then her grandfather dies and she inherits the family farm. When she returns to pack up Grandpa George's belongings, she finds herself flung into Hope's rumor mill and, before Hazel can regain her footing, she is pitched headlong into a battle over the farm with the mother who abandoned her as an infant. Just as Hazel is reminding herself to never ask how things could possibly get worse, she discovers human remains on her property. Hazel begins to wonder if she'll ever make it out of Hope in one piece.
