A young high school football player's father, a US Army Apache helicopter pilot, has been listed as presumed KIA in Iraq. The young man, John Douglas, is crushed with heartache. His father had always been there, taking him fishing and camping, coaching him, and taking care of his mother and his sister. The young man adored him. His father's last words to him had been, "Take care of your mother. Get in shape. I'll be back in time for your first game." Now, with his father gone, and seemingly unable to deal with his grief, John Douglas's anger and confusion cause him to make a series of bad decisions and lash out at his family, his friends and his coach. This results in his coach benching him, his girlfriend breaking up with him and finally, his decision to quit the football team. With his reputation now in question, his coach, his friends, and his grieving mother all reach out to help him. Will anything heal his heart? Can he ever change?
