Family dynamics are explored through the themes of adoption, obsessive compulsive disorders, and salvation. Although many members of the family in The Game of Hearts, Suzanne's first novel about adoption, are deceased, this sequel picks up where that book ended. Two families are blended together as they face issues of distrust and OCD. Salvation heals the hurts of the past and opens opportunities for the future. The book ends with a surprising revelation.
