The Metamorphosis

Frank Kafka's The Metamorphosis, first published to critical acclaim in 1915, is generally regarded as Kafka's most famous work. This short novel opens with Gregor Samsa, a traveling salesman, waking up in a room only to find himself mysteriously transformed into a giant insect. Stranger still, his condition doesn't seem to alarm his family, and in fact they seem to loath the added burden of having to take care of Gregor the homebound insect. As with most of Kafka's works, The Metamorphosis is a novel that offers the reader a range of interpretations, and nothing is black or white in this timeless classic of early 20th century literature.
