The Attic is the story of two young couples who are tormented in their homes by a person or persons unknown. Their tormentor, Anthony Halpin, is a ruthless property developer who will do anything legal or otherwise to get what he wants, and what he wants is their homes. Both couples live in different towns seperated by some two hundred miles. The only thing that links them together is the type of homes they both live in. The couples own terraced houses in older more settled parts of their home towns. Their aims were simple, buy small at first, renovate to a very high standard and then sell on and upgrade when circumstances such as the arrival of a family deem it necessary. Anthony Halpin has other ideas for their homes, he wants them and nothing will stand in his way to get them. Mandy and John Downing are his first targets. He wants their home as the first part of his plan to gain revenge on his Grandfather, a man he has never met but still has a deep rooted hatred for him. The seeds of hatred were firmly planted in his mind during his childhood by his Mother who never forgave her Father for abandoning her Mother at a very young age after getting her pregnant. Her mother was not considered a suitable wife for the only Son and heir of the wealthy Branigan family. James Branigan never knew what happened to his beloved girlfriend and after many attempts to find had to let to go. He did not know that his Father had arranged for the girl's family to move to a new location with the promise of a full time job and a large sum of money to compensate them for the inconvenience. Alice and Raymond Dunbar hold a totally different interest for Anthony Halpin, their property is located in an area where a large development is planned. He needs their home so he can put in place his plans to reduce the value of the other homes in the street so he can move in and purchase the other properties at greatly reduced prices. In
