Dust of Memory
Prabhu Jha
Born in India, and "transplanted" in America, Prabhu Jha brings to his readers a fascinating perspective both as an insider as well as outsider. With a Ph. D. in English literature and Master's degrees in English literature as well as English as a second language, he seems to have a simultaneous existence in the two different worlds: one he has left, and the other he has adopted. This sense of duality is evident in his poetry, which makes it all the more interesting. br As a poet, Prabhu Jha presents situations, moods, and scenarios from day-to-day life, which people can relate to. The gentle flow and rhythm of his poetry can lull the reader quite deceptively, until he or she is jolted by a refreshing blend of wit and emotion. More importantly, his voice as a poet derives its unique dimension, perhaps, from being an immigrant, who gives expression to universal themes like love, loss, failure, and success in life.
