Assessing Efl Students' Performance in Translating Idiomatic Expressions into Kurdish

The book "Assessing EFL students' Performance in Translating Idiomatic Expressions into Kurdish" highlights students' knowledge about both idiomatic expressions and translation issues in general and cultural and extra linguistics knowledge in particular. The translation performance of the students' recognition and production is taken into account using two different instruments: the students' test, the students' questionnaire, and the lecturers' questionnaire. The book hypothesizes that students' failure in rendering idiomatic expressions can be attributed to grammar, style, lexical peculiarities, and most importantly, the culture-specific nature of these expressions. Furthermore, as the meaning of an idiom is not a sum of its parts, students' performance is assumed to be low at both levels (recognition and translation). Therefore, students' actual performance, their attitudes about their difficulties, and lecturers' opinions about students' difficulties are dealt with and discussed throughout this book.
