A blockade was put in place to keep its remaining citizens from fleeing. The only way off of the planet is in the hands of khoyotes. Verris and Ki made a good living smuggling people off of Earth but they had to leave one person behind. Joule is trapped on the planet by a genetic disorder that prevents him from traveling in space. The khoyotes locate a drug that may allow him to leave; now all they have to do is scour a war-torn world and find him, without killing each other first.
