What happens when three friends from three very different backgrounds decide to room together during their first year of university? One is innocent and caring, another worldly and head strong, and the third naïve but easily drawn to making wrong decisions out of a need for acceptance. Ruth, Shanice and Lizzy have known each other all their lives, but they soon realise that living together is very different from seeing each other in school, and hanging out together.



Freedom come with so many responsibilities, and soon their lives become encumbered with all manners of trials that they never expected. Did they really think things through carefully before deciding to leave home and live together? How different life is when parents aren't around to support and guide, and how different life is when simple chores don't just go away. All of a sudden it seemed as if trouble was waiting for them around every corner: problems at work, illicit relationships, lies and deceptions, almost being lured into a sleazy, demeaning job, their friendships tried and tested: all this while studying for exams. Could it get any worse? But, after living through all manners of unpleasant experiences, the end reveals a secret that Ruth was not expecting.



Ruth Leaves Home is a compassionate story of three close friends; it carries a warning in part, but couched within the narrative is a lesson: everything bears up on a foundation of love, sound values and friendship.
