Hadley and Lake Luzerne are located where the narrowest part of the Hudson River meets the Sacandaga River. Separated by Rockwell Falls, these "sister towns," as they have been called, are in many respects a single community. The two were bonded even before they were officially founded in the late 1700s. They developed together, shared a common culture, similar society, and mutual commerce.

Their history is richly illustrated and narrated in Hadley and Lake Luzerne. Inside are rare photographs of loggers on drives down the river, famous visitors at the Wayside Inn, early horse racing, and a big boulder that became part of a building known as the Beehive.
