Why do bad things happen?Awful things don't happen in the world because God planned them. They happen because sin disrupted the original plan. And thanks to sin, we have all sorts of ugly, awful things affecting us now. God's not a veterinarian that shoots dogs so we have come to his clinic to get Fido patched up. He doesn't have to plan out bad things. They happen all by themselves. But God will take tragic situations and bring good from them. He doesn't take the chains of bondage and ugly parts of our lives and paint them pretty colors. He breaks the chains. He doesn't take the brokenness in our hearts and dead parts in our souls and put rainbows and unicorn stickers on them. He restores our hearts and redeems our souls. We'll always look back and grimace at the tough times, unfortunate circumstances, and tragic moments of life. But we can also look back and know that God allowed those bad things so that He could bring wonderful things from them later. Not because it was part of some big cosmic plan, but because God is in the redemption and transformation business. God redeems the past so that the present can be transformed.
