The short novel Emma2000 is an English translation of a novel written in Russian by well-known immigrant writer V. LeGeza. The original novel in Russian was published in the USA by Chaika Publishing House (Seagull Press) in 2009, and it has been translated by Inna Tsys, and edited by Margaret Erin and the author. The events of V. LeGeza's novel based on the novel Emma by Jane Austen, the author following the story line very closely but with dramatically different ending. V. LeGeza's Emma2000 takes place in the USA at the turn of the millennium in year 2000. The cast of characters is both similar to and very different from Austen's. Emma is the young daughter of the successful, but absentminded professor Litovsky from Ukraine, formerly Soviet Union. She came with her father to the USA and discovered a new life, new people, and new complex relationships. Like the original heroine of "Emma", in year 2000 Emma is extremely self-assured and thinks she is clever enough to design her own and her friends' destinies.
