Sunday Dinners at Granny and Grandpa's
Donna Carver
Growing up, we always had big Sunday dinners. Granny and Grandpa had 10 children, five girls and five boys. Plus 35 grandchildren. In those days, everyone pitched in and did what was needed to provide great meals for such a large family. Granny didn't have an oven. It was broken, but she made biscuits in an electric skillet three times a day. Sometimes we would come in and get a biscuit, poke a hole in it with our thumbs and fill it with cane syrup for a snack. I loved granny's homemade lemon meringue pie. One day, when I was in my fifties, I called Aunt Nadine to get the recipe and was astonished to find out that granny had used a jello recipe.
