There were three prominent Kings of Israel in biblical times: Saul, David, and Solomon. Preachers today have some of the characteristics of one of these three leaders. Saul was insecure, fearful and jealous. He overcompensated for his fears by being cruel, arrogant, proud, stubborn, and self-serving. He would just as soon kill his enemies than to show them any mercy. He responded to adversity with bitterness, rage and self-preservation. Throughout most of his life, David had a tender heart full of passion toward God and compassion toward people.
