He grew up in Guyana and lived through the racial violence of the 1960s and the insecurity that followed. He settled in Brooklyn, New York in 1979, entered Columbia University in 1981, moved to Harlem in 1983, and taught public school in the South Bronx. Chung directed and wrote the documentary, W. A. R. Stories: Walter Anthony Rodney.
