Chips Quackety is a charming children's book that is based on a true story. When a family of four visits the market to buy food, they fall in love with a fluffy duckling. After much cajoling, Daddy agrees to buy the duckling. To little Ellie's delight, the baby duck comes home in a shoebox. The duckling makes sounds like, "Chip, chip," so they call him Chips Quackety. Mummy, Daddy and Ellie learn to care for him, watched by baby Mandy. As Chips grows, his needs change and he gets into some scrapes. Sometimes he is lonely, but as he grows, the family looks after their pet and keeps him happy, which makes them happy, too. This story is based on a family happening that occurred in the late 1950s with the author's two older daughters. Set in Victoria, Australia, the market was the famous Queen Victoria Market in Melbourne, though animals have not been sold there for many years. Bronwen Scott-Branagan is a retired educator who lives in Melbourne, Australia. s too much on material worth. I wanted to write something that could make a difference, even a small one."
