We revisit the small, rural town of Lone Moon Creek. A century after a second earthquake destroyed everything.

A class of college students embark on an archeological dig under the tutelage of Professor Ashton. Lone Moon Creek slowly quivers back to life because of the students' tenacity. As they progress in their discoveries, they develop an attachment to the town with its virtues and old-fashioned charm.

They also develop an attachment to each other. We see 'The Four' (Naomi, Jag, Willow and Simon) bond and Mimza emerges as a somewhat annoying sidekick. Jag has childhood heartache to resolve and Naomi supports him through it. Romance blooms for the two couples, Naomi and Jag, Willow and Simon.

We follow them as they piece together the history of Lone Moon Creek, unearthing treasure after treasure from the last inhabitants of the once "One of America's Best Rural Towns." What starts as another lame way to earn three college credits during the summer grows to strong appreciation for all they found, both in the ground and in each other.
