Arts and International Affairs

Arts & International Affairs interrogates the politics and economics of the arts through a global perspective. Situated within international contexts, the arts encompass the performing, creative and visual industries that envelop the modes of expression in the global political economy. AIA's interdisciplinary style is imperative to capturing the inter-sections between people, their creations, their services and institutions. Artistic works often transcend borders and provoke local, national and transnational engagement.

The Autumn 2019 issue of cosmopolitanism and its borders reflects on the cosmopolitanism of Europe through its historical tribulations and complexities but extends those discussions worldwide. The flows of technologies and peoples, and the thrusts of passion, tradition, reason, beliefs and values collectively shape the cultural histories of cosmopolitanism and its borders. Through the cultural spaces of cities and borders, the authors in this issue explore the potential of cosmopolitanism but not without attending to its limitations both internally and externally. They all speak to cultural networks that are wide and inclusive, but in a world that can also be reactionary and exclusive.

AIA is an academic journal, but its focus on the arts distinguishes its website (theartsjournal.net) from other more traditional International Relations print publications. AIA is published three times a year.
