Lynching At Broken Butte
Lewis B. Patten
August Cragg, U. S. Marshal, had been on his way to Yuma to pick up a prisoner when he stopped in Broken Butte for a nap and a beer after the dusty stagecoach ride. He was hot and tired and needed a rest. But it didn't look that way to the citizens of Broken Butte. The presence of a man with a star on his shirt seemed to make them downright uncomfortable. It was almost as if they had something to hide.
