Walker and his adopted cousin Hairy are Paleolithic adventurers, exploring their world "before it's all settled". All we have of their world are bits of bone, cave paintings and stone knives. Heavily researched, everything in this book could have actually happened. The story is set in prehistoric France's beautiful Gorges de l'Ardèche, famous for its spectacular Pont d'Arc natural bridge and caverns of cave paintings, with little changed from its Paleolithic past. An adventure based on current anthropological understanding of primitive technology, culture and bushcraft. In their travels, Hairy and Walker must deal with saber-toothed tigers, megafaunal wolves, woolly mammoth and rhinoceros, giant cave bears, superstitious medicine men and burly Neanderthals.
