This book is an anthology, or collection, of folk narratives and epics from different regions of the Philippines representing various ethnic groups. In the present search for a Filipino national cultural identity, the importance of folklore cannot be overestimated. Oral literary tradition lies at the deepest layer of the national culture; it is the Filipino's recourse in times of greatest joy and deepest sorrow, the spring from which flows the national consciousness. May this book (Volume 2) and its companion volume (1) of Philippine Folk Narratives From Our Forefathers serve, in a collective sense, as a vehicle with which to edify and uplift our fellow beings, as a means to promote a Filipino national cultural identity, and as an opportunity for our readers in general and our students in particular to read, appreciate, and enjoy Philippine folk literature. Each folktale and myths is followed with a "Discussion" and "Vocabulary" section for those newly learning about Philippine Myth, Folklore, and Epics.
