Th? gian chênh l?ch n?y qu? không hoàn toàn t??i ??p nh? cánh hoa h?ng. Nó c?ng không tuy?t ??i gai góc nh? cây h?ng. Hoa h?ng d?u dàng, ??p ??, và mùi th?m ngào ng?t. Nh?ng cái cây sanh ra nó thì mình ??y gai góc. Hoa là hoa. Gai là gai. Cái gì thu?c v? hoa là c?a hoa. Cái gì thu?c v? gai là c?a gai. Không vì hoa mà ta lao mình vào gai, c?ng không vì gai mà xa lánh h?n hoa h?ng.




V?i ng??i l?c quan, th? gian n?y tuy?t ??i nh? cánh hoa h?ng. Ng??i bi quan trái l?i, th?y nó ??y gai ch??ng. Nh?ng ??i v?i ng??i th?c ti?n, th? gian không tuy?t ??i t??i ??p, c?ng không hoàn toàn x?u xa. Nhìn v?i c?p m?t th?c ti?n thì nó sanh ra v?i nh?ng hoa h?ng xinh t??i ??p ?? cùng v?i gai nh?n ??y mình.




Ng??i hi?u bi?t s? không say mê s?c ??p c?a hoa h?ng nh?ng nh?n ??nh ?úng nó là th? nào. Th?u tri?t b?n ch?t c?a gai ng??i ?y th?y ?úng th?c t??ng c?a nó và s? hành ??ng ?? th?n tr?ng ?? kh?i b? gai quào hay ?âm chích.




Gi?ng nh? qu? l?c c?a ??ng h?, ?ánh qua trái r?i sang ph?i, ph?i r?i tr? l?i trái, luôn luôn nh? v?y, có b?n ph??c lành và b?n ?i?u b?t h?nh trong ??i s?ng mà t?t c? m?i ng??i, ai ai c?ng ph?i ???ng ??u, không ai tránh kh?i.




Ðó là ???c (làbha) và thua (alàbha), danh th?m (yasa) và ti?ng x?u (ayasa), ca t?ng (pasamsà) và khi?n trách (nindà), h?nh phúc (sukha) và ?au kh? (dukkha).




This ill-balanced world is not absolutely rosy. Nor is it totally thorny. The rose is soft, beautiful and fragrant. But the stem on which it grows is full of thorns. What is rosy is rosy; what is thorny is thorny. Because of the rose one will not meddle with the thorns nor will one disparage the rose on account of the thorns.




To an optimist this world is absolutely rosy; to a pessimist this world is absolutely thorny. But to a realist this world is neither absolutely rosy nor absolutely thorny. It abounds with beautiful roses and prickly thorns as well, from a realistic standpoint.




An understanding person will not be infatuated by the beauty of the rose but will view it as it is. Knowing well the nature of the thorns, he will view them as they are and will take the precaution not to be wounded.




Like the pendulum that perpetually turns to the right and left, four desirable and undesirable conditions prevail in this world which everyone, without exception, must perforce face in the course of one's lifetime.




They are gain (làbha) and loss (alàbha), fame (yasa) and defame (ayasa), praise (pasamsà) and blame (nindà), happiness (sukha) and pain (dukkha).
