It is sometimes a tragedy that defines our character the most. This is certainly the case with Amelia Saul: a doctor, alchemist, and pacifist who refuses to let her ailing home slip away from her. When she finds a clue that may lead to her cure, Amelia has to navigate borders both political and ideological; the closer she gets to the mysterious alchemist, Calcifer, the more violence is dealt on her behalf. Amelia can feel the peaceful fabric of her heart tearing down the middle- in one direction towards her beliefs, and in the other towards her home. July, on the other hand, is along for the ride; a young fighter whisked away from her cozy hometown to tour the world with a folk legend. Violence comes naturally to her, much to Amelia's chagrin. But as she crosses continents to protect her new friend, she discovers something long-buried by her own bewildered heart--something she can't look away from any longer.
